Oak Room

In the Oak Room we love to sing songs, dance and have a giggle but most of all we love our visual timetable and our sign-a-long signs – we aim to make learning as engaging and enjoyable for the children as possible whilst maintaining a structured routine and ensuring our variety of needs are met.

Our class is one of three in Glenable and the children in our class have a range of additional support needs. Our class is made up of 8 Primary 1 or Primary 2 children and they are supported 3 members of staff; Miss Parry, Mrs Moffat and Mrs Clark.

Every morning we cover literacy and numeracy through a mixture of active and written means but we love getting to do some independent work in our literacy and maths trays. Our afternoons always begin with a soft start; our favourites are dancing and singing, and then we focus on interdisciplinary learning. During the afternoons we also spend time visiting Softplay and the sensory room or doing some cooking and messy science experiments. Each week we spend time in the local community and enjoy trips to BrightSparks, the local park and Riding for the Disabled.

The Oak Room is definitely an energetic and enthusiastic environment where our children feel safe, happy and ready to learn.
